Each colony task has a job category. A worker must be capable of that job type to perform the task. Some past experiences and traits may make certain beings incapable of performing specific jobs.

Job capability is not the only requirement for performing a task. Most tasks also require one or more abilities, which a being may or may not have. For example, cleaning solar panels requires the ability to fly, so only someone with a Mini Jet or Jet Suit can do the job, even if they are highly skilled at cleaning.

A being's intelligence level, provided by its core or brain, can also limit the type of work it can perform. For example, a being with a Dumb Core or Lite Core cannot operate a Research Station, but someone with a Mini Core or Human Brain can.

Most jobs have a skill level. Level 0 means the being is an amateur and may make mistakes. Higher skill can improve proficiency, success chance, and speed. Robot worker skills can be trained at an ML Booth, but this requires removing the core, which carries some risk.
